Poem: Be As A Butterfly

from caterpillar to butterfly,
our small green friend must liquify
to wholly metamorphosize
and sprout its wings on which to glide.

a transfiguration, resolute.
there’s no way back, no secret route.
curled away in its cocoon,
the cycle shifts, just like the moon.

then one day, when the sun is high,
the caterpillar emerges, unrecognised.
magnificent and beautified,
this flying flower takes to the sky.

and so, if we should like to change,
with aspects of self to re-arrange.
this transformation must occur inside,
so we can be… as a butterfly.
